Just lately I have not had a lot to say. I think this is because not only have I been in covid-19 lockdown, I’ve also been recuperating from my neck fusion surgery. Neither of these options for living are much fun.
But, at least having to do the two together is a good thing in terms of time saving.
Over the last two months, the only things I have done outside are excercises and Dr’s visits. Inside is another matter, I have been more creative and relaxed and active (having successful surgery helps here). The symptoms I experienced before of numbness, especially from the waist down and tiredness, have all but disappeared. The only symptom I have now, is the top of my right thumb is still numb. And if doing up buttons is the only problem I have – WOW.
Apart from writing, cooking, reading, playing football with my three cats (no I’m not using them as the ball, though when they wake me up at three a.m I have contemplated it.) The youngest one even brings the ball back to me – well! Ok! sometimes.
Anyway, I digress.
Apart from these things, I have noticed some changes in my behaviour and the behaviors of others. That are quite fascinating.
Firstly, the reaction or should I say, hysteria, over supplies especially toilet paper – absolutely flummoxed me…I mean Why? This virus does not cause diarrhoea. Surely simple mindfulness would be the best solution, and using less would be the answer, not beating the shit out of each other for the last pack in the shop. This level of panic reminded me of the Orson Welle’s radio adaption of War of the Worlds in 1938. Maybe it’s the new version of mass social media hysteria?
The second thing, is the reluctance of people to take the covid-19 warnings seriously. It was only when this large group of morons were threatened with large fines, that they visibly reduced their public ventures.
This ubiquitous carelessness and lack of a quick reaction towards our world renowned scientist’s saying covid will become a Pandemic, is also blatantly evident with our world leaders. For-instance, the American President. I call him Thump, has been showing a lack of consideration for the restrictions (another moron), by stating he’s not following them. For heavens sake man – you call yourself the leader of the world (though, not my world). This means setting a good example for the rest of us. I personally think Thump is directly responsible for all the virus deaths of American citizens, and deserves to get the bloody bug as a consequence of his dreadful lack of care. Boris Johnson did.
The third thing are the changes made to our work methods, during lockdown – just goes to show we can do this (despite employers stating the opposite) especially in these days of Technology.
And finally, the amazing changes to the levels of air pollution. World wide! And whilst we all know this wont last forever. I hold some optimism about future emissions being reduced permanently. But, we should keep work from home options, for all of us with jobs that can accomodate it, and make it part of our future methods of ethical works processes. The consequences have so far, been amazing.
When lockdown finishes, can we throw away the Me mentality and not slip back into our selfish, self absorbed, greedy and mindless ways? We have seen that it is possible.
Let us not forget this war we have waged with a more dangerous enemy than humanity.
